Villa Oeiras
Villa Oeiras 7 Year Old Carcavelos
Villa Oeiras 7 Year Old Carcavelos is a Portuguese fortified wine from Carcavelos, the small appellation on the coast between Lisbon and Cascais, aged in oak casks. It is the easiest way to taste one of Portugal's rarest wines, a local speciality that was famous in the 18th century and almost vanished.
Tasting notes
Carcavelos is a fortified wine with a sweetness balanced by acidity, often described as sitting between a tawny Port and a Madeira. With seven years in wood, expect dried fruit, nuts and caramel notes alongside fresher fruit than in the older bottlings, and a clean, lingering finish.
Food pairing
Open it as an aperitif with salted almonds, or after dinner with cured cheeses, pastéis de nata, queijadas de Sintra or a dark chocolate tart.
About Villa Oeiras
Villa Oeiras was created in 1983 by the municipality of Oeiras and the Ministry of Agriculture to revive Carcavelos. It is the only remaining producer, working vines on limestone soils near the Tagus estuary, in the former estate of the Marquis of Pombal.
