Viúva Gomes Colares White 2022 50 cl

Viúva Gomes Colares White 2022 is a dry Portuguese white wine from Colares, on the Atlantic coast west of Sintra, made from the rare Malvasia de Colares grape grown on ungrafted vines in deep sand. It is one of the most singular whites of the Lisbon region, and the 50 cl bottle is just right for two.

Tasting notes

Pale gold in the glass. Orchard fruit and almond on the nose, then a taut, dry palate with firm acidity and a savoury, mineral finish. The grapes are pressed in whole bunches and the wine spends a year in 225-litre French oak barrels, which gives it texture without hiding the sea air.

Food pairing

Open it with grilled sea bass or dourada, amêijoas à Bulhão Pato, cured fish and seafood, or a fresh goat cheese.

About Viúva Gomes

Viúva Gomes has made wine in Colares since 1808 and takes its name from the widow Gomes. Today José and Diogo Baeta, father and son, farm tiny coastal plots organically and keep local grapes such as Ramisco and Malvasia de Colares alive.

• Serve at 10-12 °C. Keeps 2 to 3 days in the fridge once opened, with the cork back in.
