Queijo do Campo
Queijo do Campo Gouda with Cumin
This is a Portuguese Gouda with cumin, made from raw cow's milk by Queijo do Campo in Odemira, Alentejo. A Dutch tradition of flavoured Gouda, made with milk from cows grazing the Alentejo coast all year.
Flavour and texture
Cumin is the classic spice of Dutch farmhouse cheese. It brings a warm, earthy spice that cuts through the rich, buttery paste and gets more aromatic as the cheese matures.
Food pairing
Serve it with dark bread and mustard, slice it into a sandwich with presunto, or melt it on potatoes. For wine, a Douro red, an Alentejo red with Alicante Bouschet, or a dry Alentejo white.
About Queijo do Campo
Queijo do Campo is made at Herdade dos Nascedios in Odemira, on the Alentejo coast, by Frans Ampt and Martine, who came from the Netherlands. Their Jersey and Friesian cows graze outdoors all year, and the cheese is made from raw milk.
