Queijo do Campo
Queijo do Campo Aged Gouda, 1 Year+
Pickup currently not available
This is a Portuguese Gouda aged for more than a year, made from raw cow's milk by Queijo do Campo in Odemira, Alentejo. Dutch know-how, Alentejo pasture: a long-aged Gouda with the depth of a great hard cheese.
Flavour and texture
After a year or more, Gouda turns firm and slightly crumbly, with crunchy crystals. The taste moves towards caramel, butterscotch and roasted nuts, with a savoury, lingering finish.
Food pairing
Break it into chunks with apple slices, walnuts or dark chocolate. Pour a 10 Year Old Tawny Port, a Madeira Bual or a ripe Alentejo red. It also grates well over soups and risotto.
About Queijo do Campo
Queijo do Campo is made at Herdade dos Nascedios in Odemira, on the Alentejo coast, by Frans Ampt and Martine, who came from the Netherlands. Their Jersey and Friesian cows graze outdoors all year, and the cheese is made from raw milk.
