Horácio Simões
Horácio Simões Excellent Moscatel Roxo 10 Year Old 50 cl
Horácio Simões Excellent Moscatel Roxo 10 Year Old is a sweet Portuguese fortified wine from the Setúbal Peninsula, made from the rare pink-skinned Moscatel Roxo grape and aged ten years in French oak barrels. It is the top cuvée of the house, made in tiny quantities, and one of the great sweet wines of Portugal.
Tasting notes
Amber to bronze in the glass. The nose opens on caramel, praline, vanilla, anise, cinnamon and a hint of mint. On the palate, caramelised orange, dried fig and date, carried by long, lively acidity and a smooth finish. The grapes stay on their skins for about five months after fermentation, which gives the wine its depth.
Food pairing
Serve it with a ripe Azeitão cheese, foie gras, dark chocolate, a walnut tart or a crème brûlée. Or pour it on its own as the last glass of the evening.
