Herdade do Portocarro Cavalo Maluco Red

€45,00

Cavalo Maluco is a Portuguese red wine from Herdade do Portocarro in the Península de Setúbal, south of Lisbon, built on Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Petit Verdot. The name means "crazy horse", and this is a serious red: a bottle to decant for a long dinner or to put away for a few years.

Tasting notes

Earthy and structured, with dark fruit and the spice of oak ageing. The tannins are firm, so it gains from some air in the glass or a short decant. The blend can shift slightly with the vintage.

Food pairing

Serve it with a thick steak, bife à portuguesa topped with a fried egg, roast lamb, or slow-cooked bochechas de porco preto. A piece of aged Serra or Azeitão cheese works too.
