Tasting notes

Angola was once one of the great coffee producers of the world, and its beans have filled Portuguese cups for generations. Angolan coffee is typically full bodied and round, with low acidity and notes of dark chocolate, toasted bread and a gentle bitterness. The slow wood roast adds a warm, slightly smoky edge.

Food pairing

Serve it as an espresso with a pastel de nata or a bolo de arroz. It also stands up well to milk, so try it as a galão with toast and butter, Lisbon style.

Flor da Selva is a family coffee roaster in Madragoa, Lisbon, founded in 1950. It still roasts its coffee over firewood, one of the very few in the city to do so, and keeps its 1950s style packaging. Buying the 1 kg bag means you never run out of your favourite origin.
