Convento dos Cardaes Onion Jam 100 ml
Pickup currently not available
Convento dos Cardaes Onion Jam 100 ml is a Portuguese onion jam from Lisbon, from the 17th century Convento dos Cardaes. A savoury-sweet jar for cheese boards and charcuterie.
Flavour and texture
Onion jam is slow-cooked until soft and caramelised, with a sweet, mellow flavour and a gentle tang. Jammy and rich, it brings depth to anything savoury.
Food pairing
Serve it with cured cheeses, a Queijo de Azeitão, goat's cheese, pâté or presunto, or spoon it onto a burger or roast pork. A glass of Douro red or a tawny Port goes beautifully.
About the Convento dos Cardaes
The Convento dos Cardaes, on Rua do Século in Lisbon, was founded in 1681 for Discalced Carmelite nuns and came through the 1755 earthquake. Since the late 19th century it has been home to an institution caring for women with special needs, with the help of Dominican sisters. Its jams and biscuits are sold to support the house, so every jar does a little good.
