Convento dos Cardaes
Convento dos Cardaes Bitter Orange Jam 250 ml
Convento dos Cardaes Bitter Orange Jam 250 ml is a Portuguese jam from Lisbon, made at the 17th-century Convento dos Cardaes. A jar for breakfast lovers who like their toast with character, and for anyone who misses a proper marmalade.
Flavour and texture
Bitter orange is the classic marmalade fruit. Expect a fragrant, grown-up jam where bright citrus sweetness meets the pleasant bitter edge of the peel. It wakes up the palate rather than coating it.
Food pairing
Spread it on buttered toast or a warm papo-seco, serve it with a creamy Azeitão-style cheese, or use it to glaze duck. Pour a chilled Moscatel de Setúbal alongside.
About Convento dos Cardaes
The Convento dos Cardaes stands on Rua do Século, between Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real. It was founded in 1681 for Carmelite nuns and came through the 1755 earthquake with its gilded chapel and Dutch tile panels intact. Its small shop sells jams and biscuits made at the convent, and the house still welcomes young adults with special needs.
