Flavour and texture

Ameixas d'Elvas are greengage plums slowly cooked in sugar syrup. They are tender and juicy, with a honeyed sweetness and a gentle fruity tang.

Food pairing

Serve them after dinner with coffee, with a cured Alentejo sheep's cheese, or with a glass of tawny port or Moscatel de Setúbal.

About Confibor and Elvas

Elvas is a frontier town in the Alentejo, close to the Spanish border, whose fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous across Portugal for its candied fruit, above all the greengage plums known as ameixas d'Elvas, which carry a protected designation of origin.
