Brejo da Gaia
Brejo da Gaia Goat's Cheese Cured in Red Wine 70 g
This is a small goat's milk cheese cured in red wine, from Brejo da Gaia, a farmhouse dairy in Tramagal, Ribatejo, in a 70 g piece. Cheese and wine in one bite: the natural pick for a wine lover's board.
Flavour and texture
Curing in red wine tints the rind purple and adds a fruity, slightly winey note. Inside, the paste stays firm and tangy, with the clean taste of goat's milk and a rounder finish.
Food pairing
Serve it with grapes, walnuts and dark bread. Pour a red from the Tejo or a soft Alentejo red, or try a Lisboa Castelão. A tawny Port at the end of a meal works well too.
About Brejo da Gaia
Brejo da Gaia is a farmhouse cheese dairy in Tramagal, near Abrantes. Two brothers trained in animal science started a dairy goat farm there in 2002, and since 2012 they turn their own goats' milk into cheese, made by hand one at a time.
