Barbeito
Barbeito 10 Year Old Boal Madeira
Pickup currently not available
Barbeito 10 Year Old Boal Madeira is a medium-sweet Portuguese fortified wine from the island of Madeira, made from the Boal grape and aged ten years in French oak casks. Boal gives Madeira's richer, rounder side, while keeping the island's famous acidity, so it never feels heavy.
Tasting notes
A bright, nimble palate with caramelised nuts, sultanas and a hint of spice box, then a savoury, tangy finish. Reviewers also note golden apple and ginger snap. The wines age by the canteiro method, slowly warmed in cask in the lodge rather than heated in tanks.
Food pairing
Serve it with bolo de mel, the Madeiran honey cake, with walnut or almond tarts, dried fruit, crème caramel or a mature hard cheese.
About Barbeito
Barbeito is a family house founded on Madeira in 1946 and now run by Ricardo de Freitas, grandson of the founder. It is known for its pure style: no caramel is added to colour the wines, so they keep their natural pale colour and freshness.
