Viúva Gomes
Viúva Gomes Colares Red 2015 50 cl
Pickup currently not available
Viúva Gomes Colares Red 2015 is a Portuguese red wine from the tiny Colares appellation near Sintra, made from Ramisco vines growing ungrafted in sand dunes by the Atlantic. Colares is one of the rarest wines in Europe, and a bottle like this is a piece of Lisbon wine history you can open at the table.
Tasting notes
Ramisco from Colares is known for high acidity, firm tannins and a salty, sea breeze freshness, with red fruit that turns earthy and savoury with age. These wines are made to be released late and to keep for a long time, so expect a red that is lively, taut and far from heavy.
Food pairing
Serve it with grilled sardines or tuna, roast duck rice, sautéed wild mushrooms, or aged Serra da Estrela cheese.
About Viúva Gomes
Adega Viúva Gomes, run by father and son José and Diogo Baeta, keeps a cellar of old Colares vintages and releases them only after long maturation in oak and bottle. Only around 22 hectares of these old ungrafted vines remain in the dunes.
