Villa Oeiras
Villa Oeiras 15 Year Old Superior Carcavelos
Villa Oeiras 15 Year Old Superior Carcavelos is a medium-sweet Portuguese fortified wine from Carcavelos, the tiny appellation on the coast just west of Lisbon, made from Arinto, Galego Dourado and Ratinho. Carcavelos was famous in the 18th century and almost disappeared. Today it is one of the rarest wines in Portugal, and a fascinating bottle to discover right next to the capital.
Tasting notes
The blend spends an average of 15 years in Portuguese and French oak. Expect aromas of dried fruit, spice, tobacco and toffee, then a rich, intense palate where elegant acidity balances the sweetness, and a long finish.
Food pairing
Serve it as an aperitif or after dinner, with dry or medium-aged cheeses, a pâté, or Portuguese convent sweets such as pão de ló, toucinho do céu or travesseiros de Sintra.
About Villa Oeiras
Villa Oeiras was created in 1983 by the municipality of Oeiras and the Ministry of Agriculture to save the Carcavelos appellation. It is now the only remaining producer, with vineyards on limestone soils close to the Tagus estuary, in the former estate of the Marquis of Pombal.
