Vila das Rainhas Ginja de Óbidos Reserva is a Portuguese sour cherry liqueur from Óbidos, the medieval walled town north of Lisbon, the Reserva of the house. It is the ginja to slow down with, after a long meal, and a classy gift from Portugal.

Tasting notes

Ginja is made by steeping ginja sour cherries in alcohol with sugar. Expect a deep ruby colour, ripe and sour cherry, almond notes from the stones, and a rounder, more complex character than a young ginja.

Food pairing

Sip it after dinner, in a chocolate cup or a small glass, with dark chocolate, a cherry tart or a mild cheese.

Vila das Rainhas is a ginja house from Óbidos, the walled medieval town north of Lisbon whose name is tied to ginja. Óbidos was once a wedding gift from Portuguese kings to their queens, which is where the name Vila das Rainhas, the town of the queens, comes from.
