Várzea da Pedra
Várzea da Pedra Curtimenta Orange Wine 1.5 L
Várzea da Pedra Curtimenta is a Portuguese orange wine, a white wine fermented on its skins in the traditional way known as branco de curtimenta, here in a 1.5 L magnum. A magnum keeps wine fresher for longer, looks great on the table and is made for sharing, so bring it to a long lunch with friends.
Tasting notes
Skin contact gives white grapes a deeper golden or amber colour, a light grip of tannin and flavours that lean towards dried citrus peel, orchard fruit, herbs and tea. These wines are usually dry, textured and savoury rather than fruity.
Food pairing
Orange wine is one of the most food-friendly styles there is. Try it with roast chicken, bacalhau com grão, mushroom dishes, spiced Goan-style curries or a board of cured cheeses.
About Várzea da Pedra
Várzea da Pedra is a small Portuguese label, and our shelves also carry its Macerado. Branco de curtimenta is an old farmhouse practice in Portugal that has come back into fashion with a new generation of winemakers.
