Gota D'Álcool
Tereza Vinho Verde Orange Wine
Tereza is a Portuguese orange wine from the Vinho Verde region, made in the curtimenta style: white grapes fermented with their skins. It is a great bottle if you are curious about skin-contact wine, and it shines on a table full of small plates.
Tasting notes
Curtimenta wines take colour, texture and a light grip of tannin from the skins. In Vinho Verde, where cool Atlantic weather keeps acidity high, the style tends to show citrus peel, dried herbs and a fresh, slightly savoury finish. Expect more structure than a classic Vinho Verde white, and a deeper golden colour.
Food pairing
Open it with grilled sardines, an octopus salad, a board of Portuguese cured cheeses or a spicy chicken piri-piri. The tannin grip also handles garlic and smoked paprika well.
About curtimenta
Curtimenta is the Portuguese word for skin maceration of white grapes, an old farmhouse method now popular again with small producers. Tereza applies it to the fresh, Atlantic grapes of the north-west of Portugal.
