Quinta do Romeu
Quinta do Romeu Red
Quinta do Romeu Red is an organic Portuguese red wine from the Douro, made from native grapes at the northernmost estate of the Douro appellation. Up north, the Douro is cooler, and it shows: this red is fresher and lighter on its feet than many from the valley. A great bottle for people who find Douro reds too heavy.
Tasting notes
The wines of Quinta do Romeu are known for bright acidity, a floral, savoury side and easy drinkability. Fermentations start with wild yeasts, oak is used sparingly if at all, and sulphur is kept low, so the fruit stays pure and lively.
Food pairing
Try it with roast chicken, alheira de Mirandela, grilled pork, or a mushroom and chestnut dish from Trás-os-Montes.
About Quinta do Romeu
Quinta do Romeu was founded in 1874 by Clemente Menéres, who came to the area for its cork oaks. Today the Menéres family farms 25 hectares of vines, olives and cork, with no synthetic pesticides since 1995.
