Quinta da Pellada
Quinta da Pellada Primus White
Pickup currently not available
Quinta da Pellada Primus White is a Portuguese white wine from the Dão, made by Álvaro and Maria Castro from an old field blend of native white grapes including Encruzado, Cercial, Bical and Terrantez. It is one of Portugal's most respected whites, precise and age-worthy, a bottle to open slowly and remember.
Tasting notes
The vines are about 70 years old and grow on granite at around 500 metres. Importers describe pale gold, wet stone, stone fruit and lemon curd, then a restrained, mineral palate and a long, persistent finish that keeps improving with age.
Food pairing
Serve it with roast turbot or sea bass, bacalhau com natas, lobster rice, or a creamy Serra da Estrela cheese.
About Álvaro and Maria Castro
In 1980 civil engineer Álvaro Castro inherited two neighbouring Dão estates, Quinta da Pellada and Quinta de Saes, in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela, and became one of the region's first estate bottlers. His daughter Maria joined in 2000, and they farm 44 hectares of field blends of more than 40 native grapes along biodynamic principles.
