Profetas e Villões
Profetas e Villões Caracol dos Profetas White
Pickup currently not available
Caracol dos Profetas is a white wine from Porto Santo, the small island next to Madeira, made by Profetas e Villões from Caracol, a native white grape of the island. Very little wine is made on Porto Santo, and Caracol is almost unknown outside it. This is a rare bottle from low bush vines grown in sand and limestone, close to the Atlantic.
Tasting notes
Porto Santo whites are known for a salty, flinty character, sharp acidity and a sea-shell minerality, with citrus and floral notes. Expect a tense, saline wine rather than a fruity one, and give it time in the glass.
Food pairing
Pour it with oysters, grilled limpets (lapas), espada with banana, tuna steak or fresh goat cheese.
About Profetas e Villões
Profetas e Villões is a wine company launched in 2021 by winemaker António Maçanita and Madeiran restaurateur Nuno Faria to revive Porto Santo’s low-growing vineyards. The name plays on the friendly rivalry between Porto Santo islanders, the “profetas”, and Madeirans, the “villões”.
