Pickup currently not available
Pêra Passa, sold by the kilo, is a Portuguese dried fruit, a traditional country sweet of the Beiras in central Portugal. A simple, old-fashioned treat for cheese lovers and for anyone curious about Portuguese food traditions.
Flavour and texture
Dried pears are chewy and dense, with a deep, caramelised sweetness, notes of honey and dried fig, and a gentle fruity tang.
Food pairing
Serve them with a cured cheese such as Serra da Estrela, with walnuts, or chopped into a cake. A tawny port or a Dão red is a good match.
About pêra passa
Pêra passa is a traditional dried pear from the Beiras, especially around Viseu, where small local pears are peeled and slowly dried in the sun. It was once a way to keep the harvest through winter, and it remains a much-loved country sweet.
