Pegos Claros
Pegos Claros Claro Castelão Red
Pickup currently not available
Pegos Claros Claro is a light Portuguese red wine from Palmela, south of Lisbon, made from 100% Castelão by the Pegos Claros estate. It is the easy, fresh side of a producer better known for its old-vine Reserva, and it is a red you can pour all year, even in summer.
Tasting notes
UK importer Vagabond describes wild strawberry and thyme on the nose, then red fruit that builds on the palate with freshness and an herbal edge. Expect a light, juicy red with soft tannins and about 12.5% alcohol in recent vintages.
Food pairing
Try it with grilled sardines, bifanas, a board of chouriço and cheese, or roast chicken with herbs. It also works with tuna steak.
About Pegos Claros
Pegos Claros works with Castelão, the signature red grape of the Setúbal Peninsula, which does especially well in sandy soils. Its Reserva comes from vines around 70 years old planted in pure, deep sand.
