Passo de Gigante
Passo de Gigante Vinhão Clarete
Pickup currently not available
Passo de Gigante Vinhão Clarete is a light Portuguese red wine, a clarete, made from Vinhão, the dark-skinned red grape best known from the Vinho Verde region. It takes a famously inky, tannic grape and makes it bright and easy, a red to drink cool on a summer evening.
Tasting notes
Clarete is the Portuguese word for a pale, light-bodied red. Vinhão brings deep colour, high acidity and wild berry flavours, so a clarete version is usually juicy and tangy, with blackberry and sour cherry and only a soft touch of tannin.
Food pairing
Pour it with grilled sardines (a classic northern pairing with Vinhão), rojões, chouriço assado or a plate of charcuterie. It also works with tomato-based pasta and pizza.
About Vinhão
Vinhão, also called Sousão, is one of the few red grapes with coloured flesh. In the north of Portugal it was traditionally drunk young and fresh from the bowl, alongside hearty local food.
