Morgado do Quintão
Morgado do Quintão Palhete Rosé
Pickup currently not available
Morgado do Quintão Palhete Rosé is a Portuguese palhete from Lagoa, in the Algarve, made from Crato Branco and Negra Mole grapes fermented together. It is a pale, fresh pink for long lunches by the sea, and a lovely bottle for anyone curious about Portugal's old palhete tradition.
Tasting notes
Palhete is an old Portuguese way of making a light wine by fermenting white and red grapes together. Here, about 70% white Crato Branco meets 30% red Negra Mole, with two days on the skins and a slow, cool fermentation in steel. The result is a pale salmon wine with notes of strawberry, white peach, red currant and lemon zest, and a bright, tangy finish.
Food pairing
Pour it with grilled sardines, a clam cataplana, garlic prawns, a summer salad, or a plate of presunto and olives.
About Morgado do Quintão
Morgado do Quintão is a family estate near Lagoa, in the Algarve, run by Filipe Caldas de Vasconcellos. Its old, dry-farmed vineyards, some vines up to 80 years old, are planted with local grapes such as Negra Mole and Crato Branco. Winemaker Joana Maçanita works with a light hand, adding only a small dose of sulphur at bottling.
