Mata is a Trás-os-Montes red wine from Meio Rural, a small producer in the remote north east of Portugal. Trás-os-Montes is one of the least known wine regions in the country, and a bottle like this is a good way to discover its mountain reds.
Tasting notes
Reds from Trás-os-Montes come from a dry, continental climate with cold winters and hot summers, often from old vineyards planted with mixed local grapes. They tend to show ripe dark fruit, wild herbs and firm but fresh structure. Ask our team at the bar for their notes on Mata.
Food pairing
Serve it with alheira de Mirandela, posta mirandesa, a hearty feijoada, or roast kid with potatoes.
