Mateus Nicolau de Almeida Trans Douro Express Baixo Corgo Red 2022

Trans Douro Express Baixo Corgo 2022 is a Douro red wine by Mateus Nicolau de Almeida, a field blend of more than ten native grapes from the western, coolest part of the valley. It is a Douro red with a different accent: lighter on its feet, fresh and focused, the kind of bottle you finish without noticing.

Tasting notes

The grapes are co-fermented with native yeasts in concrete vats and aged eight months in the same vats, with no oak. Young tastings of the range show wild berries, purple fruit, a stony, iodine-like freshness and a tight structure. Serve it a little cool to keep that energy.

Food pairing

Good with grilled sardines on bread, alheira sausage, roast chicken with piri-piri, or a mushroom açorda.

About Mateus Nicolau de Almeida

Mateus is the son of João Nicolau de Almeida and grandson of Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, creator of Barca Velha. With his wife Teresa Ameztoy he started this label in 2015, working organic vineyards and making the wines in a schist cave in Vila Nova de Foz Côa.
