Luís Pato Maria Duck Pet Nat Sparkling

Maria Duck is a Bairrada pet nat sparkling wine from Luís Pato, the family's playful take on natural bubbles. Pet nat is sparkling wine at its most spontaneous: fresh, a little cloudy and made to be opened with friends.

Tasting notes

Pet nat, short for pétillant naturel, is bottled before the first fermentation ends, so the bubbles come naturally. It usually gives softer bubbles than classic sparkling wine, fresh fruit, a yeasty note and sometimes a light haze. Bairrada lies between the Atlantic and the Buçaco hills, and the region's acidity suits the style perfectly. The name echoes Maria Gomes, one of the white grapes the family grows.

Food pairing

Serve it with fried peixinhos da horta, croquetes, oysters, or a slice of leitão.

About Luís Pato

The Pato family farms around 55 hectares of vineyards in Bairrada, planted only with Portuguese grapes: Baga, Touriga Nacional, Maria Gomes, Bical, Cercial and Sercialinho. Luís Pato is a reference name in the region, known for championing Baga and for a creative streak in the cellar.
