Horácio Simões
Horácio Simões Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal
Pickup currently not available
Horácio Simões Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal is a sweet Portuguese fortified wine from the Setúbal Peninsula, south of Lisbon, made from Moscatel Roxo, a rare pink-skinned Muscat grape. Moscatel Roxo almost disappeared in the 20th century and is now one of the region's prized specialities, a must-try if you like sweet wines.
Tasting notes
Moscatel Roxo is generally more delicate and more spiced than the classic Moscatel de Setúbal. Expect a copper to amber colour, floral and orange peel aromas, honey, dried apricot and spice, with a fresh acidity that keeps the sweetness lively.
Food pairing
Try it with queijo de Azeitão, the creamy sheep's cheese from the same region, with pastéis de nata, a citrus or almond tart, or as an aperitif over ice with a twist of orange.
