Companhia de Vinhos dos Profetas e dos Villões
Crosta Calcária dos Profetas White
Pickup currently not available
Crosta Calcária dos Profetas is a rare Portuguese white wine from the island of Porto Santo, near Madeira, made by António Maçanita from 83% Listrão and 17% Caracol. This is a collector's bottle: tiny production, old vines and a taste of the sea that you will not find anywhere else.
Tasting notes
Pale yellow. The nose is intense, saline and mineral, with iodine, a flinty, gunpowder note and subtle flowers. The palate is full and textured, fresh and complex, with real salinity, balanced acidity and a long finish.
Food pairing
Treat it like a great white Burgundy: lobster, grilled turbot, espada with banana in the Madeiran way, or simply a few fresh oysters. Give it air in a large glass.
About Profetas e Villões
Companhia de Vinhos dos Profetas e dos Villões was launched in 2021 by António Maçanita and Madeiran restaurateur Nuno Faria. The grapes come from 40 to 80 year old vines on compacted limestone in the north of Porto Santo, and the wine ferments with native yeasts in steel and barrels before 11 months of ageing.
