Convento dos Cardaes
Convento dos Cardaes Pumpkin Jam 250 ml
Pickup currently not available
Convento dos Cardaes Pumpkin Jam 250 ml is a Portuguese pumpkin jam from Lisbon, from the 17th century Convento dos Cardaes. Doce de abóbora is a classic of Portuguese homes and the jam every cheese board in Portugal is waiting for.
Flavour and texture
Pumpkin jam is smooth and golden, with a mellow, honeyed sweetness. In Portugal it is often scented with cinnamon or lemon and sometimes studded with walnuts.
Food pairing
Serve it with fresh or cured cheese: requeijão, a Queijo de Azeitão or a mature Serra da Estrela. It is also lovely on toast. Pour a tawny Port or a Moscatel de Setúbal.
About the Convento dos Cardaes
The Convento dos Cardaes, on Rua do Século in Lisbon, was founded in 1681 for Discalced Carmelite nuns and came through the 1755 earthquake. Since the late 19th century it has been home to an institution caring for women with special needs, with the help of Dominican sisters. Its jams and biscuits are sold to support the house, so every jar does a little good.
