Convento dos Cardaes Oat Biscuits is a Portuguese biscuit from Lisbon, from the 17th century Convento dos Cardaes in the Príncipe Real area. A comforting biscuit for tea time, and a gift that supports a good cause.

Flavour and texture

Oat biscuits are rustic and wholesome, with a nutty, toasty flavour, a gentle sweetness and a crumbly bite. The kind of biscuit that tastes homemade.

Food pairing

Dip them in a cup of tea or a galão, or serve them with a fresh cheese and a spoon of jam. In the evening, try them with a tawny Port.

About the Convento dos Cardaes

The Convento dos Cardaes, on Rua do Século in Lisbon, was founded in 1681 for Discalced Carmelite nuns and came through the 1755 earthquake. Since the late 19th century it has been home to an institution caring for women with special needs, with the help of Dominican sisters. Its jams and biscuits are sold to support the house, so every jar does a little good.
