Convento dos Cardaes Lemon Curd Biscuits
Pickup currently not available
Convento dos Cardaes Lemon Curd Biscuits is a Portuguese biscuit from Lisbon, from the 17th century Convento dos Cardaes in the Príncipe Real area. A bright, buttery biscuit for tea time, and a gift that supports a good cause.
Flavour and texture
Lemon curd brings a fresh, tangy citrus note to a tender, buttery biscuit. Sweet and zesty at once, it is a lovely little lift with an afternoon drink.
Food pairing
Serve with black tea, a pot of green tea from the Azores, or an espresso. After dinner, they are nice with a chilled Moscatel de Setúbal.
About the Convento dos Cardaes
The Convento dos Cardaes, on Rua do Século in Lisbon, was founded in 1681 for Discalced Carmelite nuns and came through the 1755 earthquake. Since the late 19th century it has been home to an institution caring for women with special needs, with the help of Dominican sisters. Its jams and biscuits are sold to support the house, so every jar does a little good.
