Conceito Contraste Douro Red

Conceito Contraste Douro Red is a Portuguese red wine from DOC Douro, made by Rita Ferreira Marques from organically farmed Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Souzão. It shows the fresher side of the Douro: plenty of fruit, no heaviness, and a bottle you can open on a weeknight without a special reason.

Tasting notes

The importer lists the 2022 as 50% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Roriz and 25% Souzão, at 14%. Touriga Franca brings floral, dark berry fruit, while Souzão adds deep colour and lively acidity. Expect blackberry, plum, a touch of spice and soft, ripe tannins.

Food pairing

Open it with grilled secretos de porco preto, a burger, chouriço assado, or a mushroom risotto.

About Conceito

Conceito is the project of winemaker Rita Ferreira Marques, who grew up among her family's vineyards in the eastern Douro. She switched from mechanical engineering to oenology and trained in Bordeaux, California, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand before coming home.
