Conceito Contraste Douro

Contraste is a Portuguese wine from the Douro Valley, made by Rita Ferreira Marques at Conceito from her family's vineyards in the eastern Douro. It is Conceito's accessible range, a good way into one of the Douro's most respected small producers.

Tasting notes

Contraste is made in red and white. The red blends Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Souzão, and Wine Advocate described a recent vintage as fresh, pointed and subtly concentrated, with ripe tannins and a dry finish. Ask us which colour is in stock before you order.

Food pairing

For the red, try posta mirandesa, roast lamb or alheira. For the white, grilled fish, octopus or a fresh cheese.

About Conceito

Rita Ferreira Marques studied mechanical engineering before switching to oenology to work her family's vineyards. She trained at wineries in Bordeaux, California, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand before coming home to the Douro.

• Serve the red at 16-18 °C and the white at 10-12 °C. Keeps 3 days once opened.
• 75 cl bottle, DOC Douro.
