Caves São João Porta dos Cavaleiros Colheita Red 1995

Porta dos Cavaleiros Colheita Red 1995 is an aged Dão red wine from Caves São João, kept in the producer’s cellar for nearly thirty years before release. Mature Portuguese reds at this age are hard to find. This one offers the savoury, elegant side of the Dão, ready to drink tonight.

Tasting notes

Aged Dão reds tend to show a garnet colour, dried cherry, tobacco, forest floor and a floral hint, with fine, softened tannins and the region’s fresh acidity on a long finish.

Food pairing

Open it with roast kid or lamb, chanfana, duck rice (arroz de pato), or a plate of aged cheeses and presunto.

About Caves São João

Caves São João was founded in 1920 by the Costa brothers and is still run by the family in Anadia. Best known for Bairrada, it created the Porta dos Cavaleiros brand in the Dão and is famous for releasing old library vintages.
