Quinta de Paços
Casa do Capitão-Mor Alvarinho White
Pickup currently not available
Casa do Capitão-Mor Alvarinho is a dry Portuguese white wine from Monção e Melgaço, the Alvarinho heartland of the Vinho Verde region, made by the Quinta de Paços family from 100% Alvarinho. This is Vinho Verde with real depth: more fruit and texture than the light, spritzy style most people know. A bottle to open when the fish comes off the grill.
Tasting notes
Expect apricot and stone fruit, a lemon sherbet freshness and hints of green mango or pineapple, then a long, salty, mineral finish. The grapes come from Quinta da Boavista, under a kilometre from the Minho river, on pebbly soils that mix granite and limestone. Part of the fruit gets a few hours of skin contact and the wine rests on its fine lees, which adds weight.
Food pairing
Try it with grilled sardines or robalo, bacalhau à Brás, clams with garlic and coriander, or a plate of fresh oysters.
