Casa de Santa Bárbara
Casa de Santa Bárbara 40 Year Old Tawny Port
Casa de Santa Bárbara 40 Year Old Tawny Port is a fortified wine from the Douro Valley in northern Portugal, a blend of old Ports aged for decades in oak casks. A 40 year old tawny is the oldest age category for Port, a rare bottle you open for a special evening, a milestone birthday or a gift that will be remembered.
Tasting notes
The age on the label is the average character of the blend, approved by the Port and Douro Wine Institute (IVDP). After so long in wood, old tawnies turn amber to mahogany, with aromas of dried fruit, walnuts, toffee, spice and old wood, a concentrated, silky palate and a very long finish. Expect intensity rather than fruit.
Food pairing
Pour a small glass with a hard aged cheese such as Serra da Estrela velho or São Jorge, with toasted almonds and walnuts, a crème brûlée, pastéis de nata or dark chocolate. It is also a fine digestif on its own.
About Casa de Santa Bárbara
