Cabeças do Reguengo
Cabeças do Reguengo Vira Cabeças Red
Vira Cabeças Red is a Portuguese red wine from the Alentejo, a field blend from old vineyards made by Cabeças do Reguengo, the family project led by João Afonso. It is deep and structured but fresh, an Alentejo red with the complexity that only old vines give.
Tasting notes
The 2022 came from six old vineyards with about twelve grape varieties planted together. It fermented naturally in cement vats, macerated for about a month, then aged 18 months in a 1,500 litre Slovenian oak cask, bottled unfined at 13%. Expect fruit, mineral notes and firm structure that open up slowly.
Food pairing
Pair it with black pork secretos, a lamb stew, wild boar, or an aged Serpa or Évora sheep cheese.
