Brejo da Gaia
Brejo da Gaia Aged Goat's Cheese with Sweet Pepper 70 g
This is a small aged goat's milk cheese coated with pimentão, Portuguese sweet pepper, from Brejo da Gaia in Tramagal, Ribatejo, in a 70 g piece. The red coat makes it the most colourful piece on a cheese board, with a warm, smoky-sweet note.
Flavour and texture
Under the pepper coat sits a firm, tangy goat's cheese. The pimentão brings a sweet, warm and slightly earthy flavour that softens the acidity of the milk. Brejo da Gaia also makes a version with piri-piri for more heat.
Food pairing
Serve it with olives, chouriço and bread for a petisco board, or with roasted red peppers. For wine, a fresh Tejo red, a dry rosé or a Vinho Verde Loureiro all suit the pepper.
About Brejo da Gaia
Brejo da Gaia is a farmhouse cheese dairy in Tramagal, near Abrantes. Two brothers trained in animal science started a dairy goat farm there in 2002, and since 2012 they turn their own goats' milk into cheese, made by hand one at a time.
