Brejinho da Costa
Brejinho da Costa Bagaceira Velha Aged Grape Marc Spirit
Brejinho da Costa Bagaceira Velha is an aged Portuguese bagaceira, a grape marc spirit distilled from the skins and seeds left after winemaking and then rested in wood. Velha means old: compared with a young bagaceira, time in the cask rounds off the edges and adds colour and warmth, so it is a spirit to sip rather than knock back.
Tasting notes
Aged bagaceiras usually take on a golden or amber colour, with the grape skin character of the spirit joined by notes of dried fruit, vanilla and wood, and a smoother, longer finish than a young one. Serve it in a small tulip glass.
Food pairing
Enjoy it after a long Sunday lunch, with a bica, dark chocolate, roasted chestnuts, dried figs or an almond tart.
About bagaceira
Bagaceira is Portugal's grape marc spirit, distilled from the skins and seeds left after the grapes are pressed for wine. Every wine region has its own, and it is still poured after a big lunch, or added to a coffee to make a cheirinho.
