António Madeira
António Madeira Vinhas Velhas Red
Pickup currently not available
António Madeira Vinhas Velhas is a Dão red wine made from old vines on the granite slopes of the Serra da Estrela. It is the kind of Portuguese red that wine lovers hunt for: fine, fresh and built to age, from vineyards most people walked away from.
Tasting notes
Old Dão vineyards are usually field blends, with several local grapes planted side by side. On granite and at altitude, they give reds with red fruit, pine and floral notes, fine tannins and real freshness rather than weight. This is a wine that rewards a decanter and a slow evening.
Food pairing
Pour it with roast kid or lamb, a Serra da Estrela cheese, wild mushroom rice, or duck rice (arroz de pato).
About António Madeira
António Madeira grew up in France in a Portuguese family and came back to his roots in the Dão to save old, abandoned vineyards near the Serra da Estrela. He has become one of the reference names for old vine Dão.
