António Madeira A Centenária Red
Pickup currently not available
António Madeira A Centenária Red is a Portuguese red wine from the Dão, made from a tiny vineyard planted in the 19th century, mostly old clones of Jaen mixed with dozens of other varieties. It is the grower's most sought after red, a rare bottle from vines well over 120 years old, and one to save for a special dinner.
Tasting notes
Critics have described past vintages with notes of cherry, blackcurrant, fennel and liquorice, with a savoury, meaty edge. The palate is elegant and supple, with good acidity and the structure to age. Jaen, the same grape as Mencía in Spain, brings fragrant red fruit and silky tannins.
Food pairing
Pair it with roast game, wild boar stew, a well aged steak, or chanfana, the Beiras goat slowly cooked in red wine.
About António Madeira
António Madeira farms old vineyards in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela by hand, without herbicides. For A Centenária, grapes are hand picked, cold soaked for four to five days and fermented with native yeasts, with one gentle punch down a day.
